Why not have a go!
Opportunities to learn to play croquet are available all year round. We’re always keen to encourage anyone to play croquet. We have open days, taster sessions and introductory courses to suit anyone, if you have played a bit before, or are a complete beginner.
Join Us
Whether you’re new to the game or an experienced player, we would be thrilled to have you join our group of croquet enthusiasts. At Southport, we believe that croquet is about having fun, with a group of similarly minded people and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether you’re here to compete or just looking for a relaxing game, there’s a place for you at our club.
Our members range from complete beginners to people who have been playing croquet for fifty years; And every one is encouraged to join in and share their passion for the game. We host weekly roll-up sessions, social events and club tournaments where you’ll have the chance to meet fellow players, learn new skills, and—of course—have a great time!
So, grab your mallet (we can lend you a suitable one), take a swing, and get ready for a fun and friendly experience at Southport Croquet Club. We can’t wait to see you on the lawns!

One-Hour Taster Sessions
At the beginning of each season we run a series of Taster Sessions for people new to Croquet . Each session lasts one hour and is run by an experienced player who will show you how to use a mallet, explain the different shots that you can play and will then take you through a game to practice your new-found skills.
If you missed the scheduled taster sessions for this year, or if you could not make any of the scheduled dates, click here to arrange an individual taster session.
Open Days
Each year we hold a series of open days where people can come & try the game for themselves. We provide all the equipment and instruction. All you have to do is wear flat-soled shoes and we’ll have you playing really quickly.
Introductory Courses
If you enjoyed an Open Day or a Taster Session, why not learn more about the techniques and tactics of croquet by signing up for a set of four two-hour lessons over four weeks? Attendees on the course will have access to the club’s lawns and can use the club’s mallets for the period of the course.
